The 1990s

The first steamer goes up

The first steamer was set at 93 Nguyen Cu Trinh. Thin sheets, house-made cakes — the first regulars were the alley’s neighbors.

Generation two

Taking over the batter

The second generation took over: same recipe, plus the special plate — the dish that spread the shop’s name across District 1.

Today

The regulars still come

Every morning the same: hot steamed sheets, house chili sauce, and familiar faces going back decades.

The chili sauce here has to be made in-house — store-bought would taste different right away.— the owner, second generation

BÁNH ƯỚT ANH PHONG
