From Đồng Khởi's pavement, slip into a tunnel-like alley, climb the old concrete stairs — OKKIO's door appears like a well-kept secret.

Inside is a high-vaulted room: dark timber joists, nearly a dozen copper bell pendants in two rows, deep-red terrazzo counters with a pastry case and a candle niche set into the wall. The barista stands behind the round bar like an actor on a stage — the heart of the café.

In the morning, sunlight floods through the great arched opening; by afternoon the room warms in lamplight. Through the windows — the Saigon Opera House framed in view, an old Saigon intact in every line.

OKKIO Coffee Roasters was founded in 2019; the Tự Do branch opened in April 2022 — the brand's most heritage edition, named for Saigon's old street name before 1975. OKKIO's other branches lean modern; Tự Do keeps the heritage materials: brick, tile, wood, copper.
