Saigon's cloth vot
Cloth-vot coffee — the way Saigon has kept for decades, steps from the Ho Thi Ky flower market.
Every morning, the cloth vot drips coffee for an old Saigon.
Thuan Ca Phe doesn't chase modern machines. The café brews with the traditional cloth vot: roast coffee steeped in cloth, boiling water poured slowly through, and patience as each thick drop falls. This keeps the bold flavor while filtering the bitter grounds — the taste Saigon has been drinking for decades.
At night, the glowing "40 Thuan & Coffee" sign lights the facade — the landmark on Hung Vuong street. Inside is an old living room: wooden tables, rattan chairs, still-life paintings, dried-flower vases. Regulars call it "cozy, chill, relaxing" — spacious, airy, easy for laptop work.
And don't skip the mulberry: the café candies its own mulberries with rock sugar — sweet-tart and balanced — in smoothies, blended drinks, and yogurt. Regulars call it "must-try" — a homemade fruit flavor few cafés still keep.
