Story

A slice of Sài Gòn history.

In 1999, when Saigon had barely any pizza shops, Pizza ROMA opened on the corner of 66B Cách Mạng Tháng Tám. Vietnam News (May 2026) calls it one of the city’s oldest pizzerias — the old brick walls, old fans and 1990s-era photos are still there.

Opened in 1999

One of the oldest — if not the oldest — pizza restaurants in Saigon (Vietnam News, May 2026). Back then there were no other pizza brands in town.

Pizza au feu de bois

The storefront says it plainly: traditional brick-oven pizza. Dough is rolled by hand at the open cooking station — stand near and you smell the pizzas baking, hear the sizzle from the kitchen. The dough carries a yellow tint from turmeric, for flavor and health, the staff explained (Vietnam News).

Old Saigon, intact

Brick walls that look untouched for years, old fans, 1990s photos; red plastic chairs, checkered tablecloths and a few pavement tables. No air conditioning — evenings feel better than midday (Vietnam News).
