STORY

The festival pot

Dahi Handi — the name of the clay pot hung at Janmashtami, the festival of Krishna — and the name of this restaurant. Everything else, we tell only from real photos and the restaurant's own website.

DAHI HANDI

Named for the festival

The dahi handi is the clay pot of the Janmashtami festival — broken open so its sweet curd can be shared. The name sets the house's tone: warm, bright, and made for sharing.

DONG DU

Two homes in Saigon

The restaurant's own site lists two addresses: Dahi Handi on Dong Du — this one, in Ben Nghe, District 1 — and Dahi Handi Vista on Nguyen Hue.

THE KITCHEN

Chefs of Indian cuisine

The house presents its chefs of Indian cuisine and a kitchen devoted to every dish. The food photos show the tandoor, garlic naan, biryani and generous thali trays.
