A Candlelit Room That Runs on Quiet Precision

Let me make this simple, because finding Nhặt Cafe is the one part that isn't.

You go to Phú Thọ post office on Lý Thường Kiệt, District 10. You turn into the alley beside it — the hẻm, not the main road. You walk past the shuttered shopfronts, you follow the smell of lemongrass and ginger, and you arrive. That's the whole navigation. If you're anxious about Saigon alleys at night, don't be — this one is short, lit, and the café glows from inside like a lantern.

Inside: newsprint pasted across the ceiling, bare Edison bulbs hanging on cords, a red rattan pendant lamp, an upright piano tucked under a tripod lamp. It reads as a vintage listening room, and it is one. The owner's motto is handwritten on every kraft takeaway cup — "Góp nhặt yêu thương," gathering love, little by little — and honestly the place behaves like it means it. Nobody rushed me. Nobody hovered. The bánh mì that came with my drink was there because the morning service is new and they're proud of it, not because they needed to upsell me.

When the acoustic set starts, they kill the lights and the whole room runs on candles.

Here's the important part, so you can plan: this is a listening room first and a café second. Acoustic nights run Tuesday through Sunday — Vietnamese ballads, unhurried, in a room small enough that the singer never has to shout. No ticket, no surcharge. The live music starts around 20:30. If you want conversation, come before 19:00 or after 22:00. If you want to sit in the dark with fifty strangers and feel something, come at 21:00.

Finding it

354/30 Lý Thường Kiệt, Diên Hồng (P.14), Q10 — the alley right beside Phú Thọ post office. Look for the flowing "Nhặt" script over a guitar line-drawing.

Three practical notes. One: seating is close together, so don't bring a laptop and expect to work — that's not what this room is for. Two: the 4.8 rating across 136 reviews is the highest I've seen on a Q10 café, and it shows in the details — the red paper hearts on the indoor tree, the candle collage on the counter. Three: order at the counter, pay, sit. The whole system is designed so nothing interrupts the music.

I went in overthinking it — will I find the alley, is it cash only, will I be the only foreigner. None of it mattered. Walk in, get the cup with the motto on it, and let the room do what it was built to do.
