The pig is the brand. The pig is the building. The pig is, spiritually, the menu.
Lão Trư — named for Trư Bát Giới, Pigsy himself — is a 250-seat beer hall at 68 Phạm Ngọc Thạch where the big lit sign reads "SƯỜN NƯỚNG BBQ • BIA / LÃO TRƯ" with a flame living inside the letter O, a red Tiger neon glows beside it, and "In Trư we trust" hangs in neon over the brick wall. Subtlety left the building. Thank god.
You don't come here for a quiet dinner. You come here to forget the way home, fondly.
Texas-style smoke meets 25+ craft beers on tap — that's the actual pitch, and the room delivers it at full volume: long communal wood tables, a brick vault, a towering beer tower, crowds celebrating in front of a projector screen. This is the register of liên hoan and birthdays, not fine dining, and everything on the walls knows it.
The food line: smoked meats sliced and rolled, garlic-butter bread, Texas smoked beef ribs at 359k/595k. "Khói" — smoke — is the most expensive adjective in the building, and they spend it well. My kind of math: big room, loud night, honest smoke, a beer for every mood. This is the 200k-room-that-feels-like-2-million of BBQ halls — maximum night per dong.
Survival tips from someone who's done the hostel circuit: eat BEFORE the beer tower empties your judgment, claim a communal table early because they fill by 8, and don't skip the garlic-butter bread — it's the sleeper hit and I will fight anyone who says otherwise. The motorbikes parked out front tell you everything about the crowd: this is a locals' night out, not a tourist trap.
Good to know
I'll be back with a bigger group. That's the highest rating I give.
