Good to know
Why this corner matters: It's a two-frontage building on one of Saigon's busiest intersections. You can't miss it: big white KAFA letters on a washed-stone wall, billboards above, traffic flowing past on both sides. If you're anxious about finding places, this is the opposite of an alley café. It's a landmark.
The two floors (this is the key thing to understand):
Ground floor — old-Hanoi street coffee. Brown wooden furniture, open bar, the bustle of the intersection right there. This is the quick-visit floor: walk in, sit down, drink, watch the city. The signature here is Phê Dừa — coconut coffee, rich and creamy, the kind of drink that makes you understand why coconut + coffee is a Vietnamese classic.
Upper floor — yellow-canopy balcony. Go upstairs and the whole experience changes. A yellow fabric canopy, leaf-patterned walls casting shadows, and a full view over the intersection. This is the slow-visit floor: same menu, completely different mood. You go from street-level energy to above-it-all calm in one flight of stairs.
Hours: 07:30–23:00 daily. Long hours. Morning rush downstairs, sunset crowd upstairs.
What to order:
- Phê Dừa (coconut coffee) — the signature, don't skip it
- Standard Vietnamese menu otherwise — cà phê sữa đá, bạc xỉu, all the classics
- It's not a specialty-pour-over place; it's a done-right-traditional place
The reassurance: If hẻm cafés intimidate you, start here. Big sign, major intersection, two clear floors, no alley navigation required. It's the most approachable "real Saigon café" I can think of — traditional coffee, great people-watching, and that upstairs balcony for when you want to breathe.
Bottom line: KAFA is two cafés stacked on top of each other, and both are good. <Quote>
Downstairs for the street, upstairs for the sky.
