Cư Xá means the old apartment blocks — the ones built decades ago, where the hallways are narrow and the neighbors know each other's business. In Cư Xá Bắc Hải, down an alley off Hương Giang street, there's a café the vines are slowly reclaiming. Its name is CƯ XÁ. Just that. As if to say: this place is the neighborhood.

I arrived in the late afternoon, when the light goes soft. The first thing you see is green — monstera pressing against blue shutters, vines trailing over everything. Then the service window: open, glowing warm, with "trà bánh cà phê" written above it. Tea, cakes, coffee. Simple. Behind that, a bamboo-fenced patio with camping chairs, string lights, red paper lanterns.

I stayed for three hours. I came for one drink.

That's the thing about this place — it's designed for staying without announcing it. Nobody rushes you. The chairs are the kind you sink into. The string lights come on as the sky darkens, and the patio shifts from afternoon to evening without you noticing the transition. Someone's playlist, low. The murmur of the alley. The vines, still there, holding everything together.

I talked to a young woman at the next table who comes every Sunday. "It's the only place where I don't feel like a customer," she said. I understood exactly what she meant. There's no performance here — no photo corner, no signature drink in a special cup, no concept. Just a patio, some lights, and the feeling that you've been let in on something.

The menu is tea and coffee and cakes, done well, priced fairly. Nothing to write home about on paper. But that's not why you come. You come because some places make you feel like you belong, and this is one of them.
