Story

The cellar under Nguyen Trai

Vesou's address is itself a set of directions: 150/7/3 Nguyen Trai — into alley 150, branch 7, and the cellar sits below street level. At the bottom of the stairs, the noise of Ben Thanh stays upstairs.

Chapter 01

Down the stairs

Vesou is a speakeasy in the literal, locational sense: below street level in the 150/7 alley of Nguyen Trai, reached by descending a staircase. The low cellar, timber beams and patterned tiles keep the room feeling found rather than advertised.

Chapter 02

Rum from around the world

Behind the bar is the reason the cellar exists: an extensive collection of rum from around the world. Vesou mixes it both ways that honour the spirit — classics made by the book, and cocktails built on Vietnamese ingredients.

Chapter 03

The cigar room in the cellar

Part of the cellar is set aside as a cigar smoking room, separate from the main bar, and a small kitchen serves finger food. Vesou is built for long evenings: go down once, and stay down there.
