One café, one era
Tiệm Cà Phê Tân Thời — a Saigon of the 70s–80s kept intact, right in alley 386 Lê Văn Sỹ.
A time capsule that refuses to be a museum.
Tiệm Cà Phê Tân Thời hides in alley 386/5 Lê Văn Sỹ, District 3 — a “small café keeping memories”, in the café’s own words.
After closing for a refresh in Aug 2025, the café reopened in Sep 2025 with air conditioning and WiFi — older write-ups saying “no air conditioning” are now out of date.
A trilingual Vietnamese–English–Chinese menu board hangs at the counter (prices photographed 05/2026): coffee, matcha, iced teas and cakes — serving foreign guests too.

What only Tân Thời has
- The rippled green-iron storefront with retro cream block letters and pink bougainvillea.
- A childhood tạp-hóa corner: candy jars, hanging snack packs, newspaper racks.
- A wall of vintage newspapers pinned on wood rails — guests still read paper papers at the table.
- A glass cabinet of childhood things: vintage cups, a Marshall speaker, a Sony boombox.
- Peeling walls exposing brick, Edison string lights, an upright piano with a red curtain.
- The café dresses with the seasons: Tết, Mid-Autumn, flag bunting — the hand-lettered “radiant May” curtain.
Who it’s for
A 70s–80s Saigon in every old object — paper newspapers, the glass cabinet, the childhood tạp-hóa.
Air conditioning and WiFi since the 09/2025 refresh — quiet enough to settle in.
A trilingual Vietnamese–English–Chinese menu board — ordering is easy.
