The Hoi Beo Cafe story — an egg-coffee cafe in a hostel courtyard on Tran Hung Dao
“Hoi beo” (a little chubby) isn't an insult — it's a promise: thick foam, crispy fried food, no leaving hungry.
Down alley 261 Tran Hung Dao, Hoi Beo is a hostel's coffee shop: a green courtyard with a mint wall, potted plants, old wooden tables, black plastic plates. The food menu reads like a rice shop's — dry noodles, fried rice, fries, fish balls in fish sauce. Backpackers sit next to Saigon friend groups over the same tray of beef-egg dry noodles.
The house signature is the foam cap: no signature drink goes without a thick cap of foam — whipped egg foam dusted with cocoa, lightly salted pink foam, rich cheese foam. Three foam families, one composition: dark and strong below, thick foam above. Want it richer? Add foam for 18–23k. The owner's photos have kept that same composition since 2023.
Open 9:00–23:00 daily: morning egg coffee under the trees, midday beef-egg dry noodles, evenings with live piano. Prices from the 02/2025 printed-menu photo — the 07/2026 board confirms the menu is current with small rises; please confirm at the cafe.
