The story

Three generations, one wok of oil

Tucked into an alley off Lý Tự Trọng, Cơm Gà Xối Mỡ is a family shop that has spent 20+ years doing exactly one thing: Cantonese-style gà xối mỡ. No big signboard, no advertising — diners find it purely by word of mouth.

Three generations work the kitchen together, keeping the traditional method unchanged: seasoned chicken ladled with hot oil until the skin blisters crisp. The rice is cooked in the chicken's own fat, served with greens and hot soup — simple and unforgettable.

The first generation

The shop opens in the alley shophouse with exactly one dish: family-recipe Cantonese-style gà xối mỡ.

The second generation

Keeping the flame

The children take over the kitchen, keeping the hand-ladled xối mỡ method exactly — no shortcuts, no changes.

Today

The third generation

Three generations serve together every evening. The shop still opens only 4:30–8:30 PM, still packed nightly — its reputation is the signboard.

Every evening from 4:30 PM, the steel tables in the courtyard fill up again. Saigon locals who have eaten here for decades keep coming back — because some flavors only time and devotion can make.
