Story

Chilli Thai — a red lantern in District 1

Number 93 Ly Tu Trong lights up every evening: the glowing Chilli Thai sign, paper lanterns strung through the dining room, and steaming Thai plates.

The name says it all: chili heat and Thai cooking. Chilli Thai is a dining hall in the classic style — strings of red paper lanterns, warm brick and wood, plain wooden tables — Thai food in a room that feels like a Bangkok side street.

The Tom Yum hotpot arrives in its brass pot still bubbling — sour lemongrass-chili broth with prawns, squid and fish cake. Alongside: crispy pla krapong tod with green mango salad, crackling fried pork with sweet-sour chili fish-sauce dip, and prawn Pad Thai tossed hot in the wok.
