Every family needs a rainy-day place. Ours is Cashflow Boardgame Cafe at 7A/19 Thành Thái, District 10 — Saigon's boardgame living room since 2013, which in café years makes it practically ancient, and it wears the age beautifully.
Warm wood tables under yellow lamplight. A whole wall of board-game boxes. Hand-drawn D20 graffiti that says CASH FLOW. And upstairs, a door marked "DARWIN'S HOUSE" where everyone instinctively whispers, because the study kids are inside and the social contract of the place is that you respect the quiet floor.
I've brought my children here in every configuration: rainy Saturday with nothing planned, birthday party with six nine-year-olds, desperate weekday evening when the wifi died at home. It has never failed us. The game library is enormous — the staff will teach you the rules, which is the difference between a game café and a café with games. My daughter learned Catan here. My son learned losing gracefully here, which took longer.
The upstairs deserves its own mention. "DARWIN'S HOUSE" — the door, the whispering, the study kids bent over their books under the same yellow lamplight. It's a quiet zone inside a social place, and the social contract holds: people actually keep their voices down up there. For the parent who needs one child entertained downstairs and another studying upstairs, this floor plan is a small miracle. I've done homework supervision from the stairwell. It works.
The parent intelligence you actually need: <Quote>
the 50% off refill policy is real and it is the economic engine of the whole visit.
</Quote> Order once, refill at half price, stay for four hours — the math works out to less than a movie, with better lighting and no trailers. The upstairs Darwin's House is the quiet study zone; downstairs is the social floor. If your kids are loud (mine are), stay downstairs. If you need them to do homework while you drink coffee in peace (I have), upstairs is a gift.
Food and drink are solid café fare — nothing that would make a food writer weep, nothing that disappoints a hungry ten-year-old. The yellow lamplight does half the work of making everything feel cozy. The wood tables have the patina of a decade of dice rolls.
It's open 08:00–22:00 daily, which covers every family emergency from morning meltdown to evening restlessness. Thirteen years in, the place has figured out what it is: <Quote>
not a café, not an arcade, but a third place — the living room you don't have to clean.
</Quote> Every city needs one. Saigon has this one, and it's excellent. We'll be back next Saturday. We always come back. The D20 graffiti will still be on the wall, the yellow lamplight will still be warm, and the staff will still teach your kids the rules with the patience of people who genuinely love this. Thirteen years and counting. The refill is still half price.
